Despite having lived all over the country, the Very Reverend Ansley Tucker is a native of Vancouver Island, having been born in Victoria and spent her primary school years here. Childhood recollections of a screaming seagull on every lamppost, liquid sunshine (aka misty drizzle), and driftwood on Willows Beach flooded unexpectedly into focus the day she landed at YYJ in 2015 to become the dean of the diocese and rector of Christ Church Cathedral. She has spent the past two years trying to figure out retirement and is happy both to be serving as the very part-time diocesan director of deacons, and - this summer - as a priest and pastor who can come alongside St Peter’s while Rev. Jim recovers his good health.
Ansley holds degrees in nursing, divinity, and theology. She is passionate about excellence in liturgy, theological and biblical literacy amongst all members of the Church, and delights in congregations who can set aside their handwringing about survival and focus instead on God’s mission to mend a broken world. She has served in parishes large and small; urban, rural and suburban; wealthy and poor; NDP orange and dyed-in-the-wool Tory blue. Every single one felt like home.
Ansley is the mostly proud, but sometimes embarrassed, owner of a single-minded wire fox terrier named Jody. In her free time, she “plays at” the piano, knits sweaters for other people’s children, reads (a lot), and takes courses in everything from art appreciation to algebra. She is looking forward to this time together.
