Season of Creation Week 2 - September 13, 2026

As we move forward in this Season of Creation, the visual images at the altar and the lectern have changed from browns and lifeless branches to include bits of blue and some living plants amid the brown and decay. We shifted our reflection from the reality that without water all living things die ton seeing these new images as indications that we are not without hope. This week, we recognized that people of faith do not live in despair but rather live in hope. The question posed on the blue slips this week was, “What is your hope for the environment? Here are our responses. Please keep these hopes in your prayers this week.

  • That people of faith act in the best interests of the environment.
  • That we each do what we can to be more aware of our actions.
  • That we take serious steps to minimize our footprint on our environment: recycle as much as possible; use plastics less; become better stewards of our world.
  • Remember:  we have to live in the environment we cause!
  • Ban uranium mining.
  • That Indigenous folks will be able to teach us to respect the earth.
  • That we--governments, businesses and individuals--will find ways to cool the earth.
  • That we will learn that all creation is one from our Indigenous sisters and brothers.
  • That people take responsibility for their own impact.
  • That we follow the First Peoples’ practices and take better care of the land, waters and air.
  • People to care enough to take action.
  • That the people of the world make more effort to stop selfish and damaging ways.
  • That we get rain and snowpack to fill our Cowichan River.
  • That people will soon realize that we need to change their thinking.
  • That humans get the message that our beautiful earth is in crises.
  • That people around the world become aware of its health being important and that individuals can act daily to improve it.
  • That humans, as a species, will seriously take responsibility for the future of all living things.
  • That future generations can enjoy our wonderful world in all its glory.
  • World population control especially the third world.
  • That we have not left it too late to remedy civilization’s destruction of the environment by the overuse of fossilized fuels.
  • Action on climate change.
  • That the earth eases its warming up.
  • That we don’t bring on the end of humanity by our actions.
  • Because we humans are polluting the air, water, land, we are the ones to conserve, throw out our waste properly, buy biodegradables, etc.
  • That the earth will survive our greed and selfishness and that the next generation will figure out how to save this fragile situation.
  • That together with our own change in behaviours (towards conservation) we’ll experience a natural cycle change in the climate cycle.
  • Wild, untouched spaces.
  • That we can live in harmony with the environment, remembering that we are part of nature too. More renewables.
