A message from The Reverend Theo Robinson:
Recently, the number of scam emails that have been going out to the St. Peter email list, pretending to be from me, has increased. It is quite unfortunate because I know that you are all generous people and would only be responding to such emails out of the kindness of your hearts. While Karen and I work on protecting our email list, I wanted to take a moment to describe what an email from me would look like.
My email address is trobinson@bc.anglican.ca. When you get an email addressed from me, look at the sending email address to verify if it is really from me. If it doesn’t look like what I wrote above, it’s not from me. As a side note, it will be quite rare that I email anyone directly, unless you are on one of my committees.
My emails also have an address block at the bottom of it, which looks like this:
Be assured that I will NEVER send you a brief, vague email requesting your help, asking about your availability, or requesting money or gift cards. DO NOT REPLY TO THESE EMAILS. If you cannot see the email address, you can right click with your mouse on the sender’s name and it will show the email address. Right click on the email address and select “Block sender”. Then immediately delete the email that was sent to you.
Almost all of these scammers send short, vague emails requesting your help. If you are ever in doubt, the best thing to do is to delete the email. This advice goes for emails not just from scammers pretending to be me, but for all scam emails. Also, NEVER CLICK A LINK OR OPEN ANY ATTACHMENTS on any of these emails.
The last hint I have for you is that I am quite wordy with my emails. If I need your help, or want you to contact me, or have a message for you, I will provide all the details to understand why I’m contacting you and what help is needed. However, as I mentioned above, requests like these will very rarely come directly from me. They will more likely come from Karen as the administrator or one of the wardens during announcements on Sunday.
I hope this helps!
Reverend Theo
