Season of Creation Week 3:  September 20, 2026

As we move forward in this Season of Creation, the visual images at the altar and the lectern have changed from browns and lifeless branches to include bits of blue and some living plants amid the brown and decay. Now there is much more blue, more beauty and more signs of life in the living plants.  Last week, we recognized that people of faith do not live in despair but rather live in hope. However, hope on its own does not create change. Hope coupled with action does. The question this week, then, is: “What actions can you take to help heal our environment? Please pray about these responses this week. Reflect on your present actions and what more you can do.

  • Go electric, using solar and wind power; install solar panels.
  • Practice sustainable living.
  • Keep politicians honest.
  • Buy local.
  • Educate oneself and support those sitting in trees to prevent clear cutting by financially contributing and raising awareness in others.
  • Talk to others and encourage change; change our behaviour.
  • Make changes to our use of resources.
  • Use common sense when interacting with the environment.
  • 2026 was a ‘no buy’ year: we’ll be continuing in 2027!
  • Doing my part in cleaning the environment; pick up garbage in the river; pick up and properly dispose of litter; don’t throw cigarette butts out.
  • I won’t wear sunblock or use unnatural substances in the river.
  • Grow plants that encourage bees and butterflies.
  • Use water wisely; use less water; install ‘seepers’; water plants with ‘grey’ water.
  • Hug random people.
  • Plant ‘natural’ greenery.
  • If there’s a provincial election, vote for the Green Party.
  • Drive my car responsibly; drive an electric vehicle.
  • Recycle: do not ‘wish’ cycle; properly separate plastics.
  • Reuse items; fix what’s broken; make do.
  • Compost; use less non-compostable items.
  • Minimize use of fossil fuels.
  • Employ a Vancity Savings Enviro Visa card which allows a % of profits to go to environmental organizations.
  • I have reduced my carbon footprint to ¼ of Canada’s per capita emissions.
  • Touch the earth lightly.
