Sunday, August 16 kicked off our monthly “St. Peter’s Presents:” sessions. Archdeacon Jenny Replogle joined us for worship, leading us through the Eucharistic Prayer, and then presented to about 30 attendees “Anglican 101”. The overall theme was exploring the question “What does it mean to be Anglican?” After enjoying a delicious soup and bun lunch, we explored how the Anglican tradition came to be, the beliefs, spirituality, and ethos that shape our identity, and how these are lived out in the life of our parish today.
The session was part lecture and part interactive activities. Jenny gave us a list of words that would describe the Anglican faith, such as sacramental, open-minded, community, political, aesthetic, and many more. We were tasked with moving to a word that described us, and then another (if different) that described St Peter’s. At each point, a few minutes of conversation took place with the people that gravitated to the same word. The same exercise took place while considering the question, “What could St. Peter’s do more?”
It was lovely to see almost everyone get up and participate. There was an encouraging amount of engaged conversation going on around the room! I was impressed at how many people think that community is very important to St. Peter’s, and that social justice work is something of which people want to see us do more.
For those who couldn’t join us, the session was recorded. On our website, you will find a new tab called “Christian Education” which will contain a schedule of upcoming St. Peter’s Presents sessions, as well as recordings of past events. Other Christian Education items will also be listed here. Keep an eye on this tab for wonderful educational opportunities!
