What’s blooming in the churchyard this week?
Dodecatheon hendersonii, commonly called shooting star. There are lots along the path to the church and a few in the cemetery as well. The petals turn themselves almost inside out, leaving the point of the shooting star heading for earth. You can also see the flattish, thick, egg-shaped leaves that are up by early February, long before the thin flower stems rise up.
They’ll last for a couple of weeks - have a look!
